“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is to not stop questioning” —Albert Einstein

Approaching retirement after 40 years of professional and volunteer work advocating to make a difference for families and children in public education, parent involvement, health and wellness and optimism for a better future means facing a new stage and direction in my life. During other times of change I found a process model of self examination and readiness that works knowing today that personal change can be exhilarating and exhausting, enlarging and diminishing, creative and hesitant, rapid and ongoing. This blog is a part of my change process, and you are important to how successful I can be at evolving with every question, new thinking, course correction—with intention, to gain insights and opportunities to continue personal and professional growth together.

I invite you to share my point of view from a lifetime of learning by growing up in the ’50s, within a large (9 siblings) military family; routinely changing hometowns and schools; navigating big decisions in the ’60s as a teen and young adult including marrying the boy next door, raising 3 children in the 70s, and divorcing and returning to school in the 80’s; achieving degrees and professional licenses and happily remarrying, grand-parenting together and working in the non profit and public services in the ’90s; then, contemplating, resisting and finally embracing retirement in 2020. Looking back, reflecting on over 70 passionate years of working, learning and remaining open to change, I recognize that along that journey I truly have been rewriting my story one page and chapter at a time.
I have often been asked, “how exactly did a nice girl like you end up working with alcoholics, addicts, mental health, disabilities, politicians, churches, and schools?” Its a long story.
